Building Entrance Services Worker

James Madison University's Facilities Management is currently seeking applicants for the position of Building Entrance Services Worker. This role follows a Monday–Friday schedule from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with adjusted hours during the summer months. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of all campus building entrance-ways through regular cleaning, grounds care, and event support, ensuring a positive and professional first impression for all who visit the university.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clean interior and exterior building entrances, including doors, thresholds, and walkways.
  • Maintain campus bus stops, including shelters, benches, and surrounding areas removing trash, debris, and cleaning glass surfaces.
  • Empty and clean exterior cigarette urns and ashtrays to keep entry areas tidy.
  • Monitor all exterior areas (entrances and bus stops) for cleanliness, safety, and needed repairs.
  • Remove litter, leaves, and debris from entryways, sidewalks, and bus stop areas.
  • Weed and maintain flower beds and landscaped areas at entrances and high-traffic outdoor locations.
  • Adjust cleaning tasks and routes based on event needs or high visitor traffic.
  • Lead and provide guidance to part-time employees assisting with exterior maintenance.
  • Accurately record work activities and hours using the AiM system.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow instructions from leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on cleanliness and safety.
  • Good communication and time management skills.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs with or without an accommodation, walk long distances, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic computer knowledge for entering time and tracking work orders in the AiM system.
  • Additional Considerations: Prior experience in custodial or groundskeeping work is helpful but not required. Must be at least 19 years old and possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 24 consecutive months.
