A/V Support Technician (PT, Hourly)

The Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking qualified A/V Technicians to support the ICA's wide array of programs, events, and classes. This position requires baseline knowledge and versatility in lighting, sound, projection, video, streaming, and stage management. A/V Support Technicians act as on-site point of contact for any event they are scheduled for, responsible for tracking, setup, operation, and breakdown of all necessary equipment. Technicians maintain a level head when troubleshooting and solving any technical issues that may arise during an event.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with visitors, clients, and other workers from diverse backgrounds
  • Creative problem solving
  • Flexibility to work some nights and weekends
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment; basic knowledge of fire safety, fall safety, and other hazards inherent to live performance venues.
  • Ability to work with equipment weighing up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work confidently on ladders, personnel lifts, and catwalks
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an employee of VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in one or more of the following disciplines: lighting, sound, projections, video, streaming, or performance
  • Experience with pre-performance, performance, and post-performance activities
  • Experience with recording and post-production editing of audio and video
  • Experience with or interest in working in a creative environment and/or with contemporary art

This is an hourly (non-benefitted) position.
