Fulfillment Engineering Technician

VGM Group continues to grow and is now seeking a Fulfillment Engineering Technician at our VGM Fulfillment warehouse in Waterloo, Iowa.
VGM Fulfillment is a national leader in CPAP machine and resupply order fulfillment. As a 100% employee-owned company, every person at VGM has a personal stake in seeing business succeed. We do this by taking responsibility from our customers for the key operations of order fulfillment: picking, packing, shipping, and inventory management. Our network of fulfillment centers is strategically located throughout the United States, providing coverage to all 50 states. This role needs to be present on-site at our warehouse location in Waterloo, Iowa.
Job Summary
The Engineering Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and facilities across VGM Fulfillment's warehouse network. This role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities including routine maintenance, equipment repair, facility upkeep, and vendor coordination. The technician plays a key role in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs, managing maintenance operations, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
In addition to hands-on technical work, the Engineering Technician collaborates closely with warehouse site managers to mentor and guide maintenance team members, oversee remote technician activities, and support training and certification efforts. The role also involves program management duties such as budgeting, reporting, and creating standard operating procedures, as well as maintaining relationships with contractors and vendors to ensure timely and effective service delivery.

Reporting Accountability: VP of Operations
Working Location: Onsite at Waterloo, IA warehouse with quarterly and as needed travel to remote warehouse locations (Nashville, TN; Phoenix, AZ; Shiremanstown, PA)
Work Hours Classification: Full-Time, 40+ hours per week
Responsibilities of the Engineering Technician
The Engineering Technician holds responsibility for the overall safe working condition of all equipment used to carry out the operations of fulfilling orders in each warehouse. Other responsibilities outside of those listed may be required pending business need.
- Perform routine maintenance on properties- such as painting, furniture or equipment setups, cubicle reconfigurations, and electrical work
- Coordinate and perform technician activities including general repairs and maintenance, as well as work to be completed by contractors at all distribution centers
- Maintain the appearance of VGM properties – including facility maintenance, as well as outdoor care such as shoveling and snow removal
- Repair machines, equipment, or racking, using tools such as hammers, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices
- Monitor and service HVAC, humidity and temperature monitoring systems, access controls, CCTV, dock levelers, internet service and equipment for these systems via a contracted third party when service or repair cannot be completed in-house
- Inspect, operate, or test machinery, equipment, and tools to diagnose machine malfunctions
- Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment
- Responsible for collaborating with warehouse site managers on the mentorship, development, and informal leadership over all VGM Fulfillment maintenance team members
- Review job orders to determine work priorities for maintenance technicians located at remote warehouse locations
- Provide training and approved certification to new employees, either by oneself when certified to do so, and or a third party
- Maintain compliance, safety, security, and quality standards by ensuring strict adherence to company policies and procedures
- Develop preventive maintenance programs and policies to ensure safety of all equipment and machinery
- Review production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities
- Plan, develop, and implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials
- May prepare department budget and monitor expenditure of funds in budget in collaboration with VP of Operations
- Manage the ticketing system and distribute work by site location for all needed and required maintenance and repair
- Work directly with the Director of Safety to ensure safety and OSHA compliance at all levels of the operation, including but not limited to; OSHA reports, forklifts, case erectors, case sealers, auto-baggers, conveyor systems, balers, racking, electrical and compressed air systems
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures for the department, which should include all procedures for all preventive maintenance, repairs, and replacements
- Perform and record all preventative maintenance, repair and or replacement of parts on equipment and determining when and what kind of ongoing maintenance is needed
- Responsible for proper usage of company issued credit cards, supplier charge accounts, travel and expenses, while maintaining within budgetary guidelines as established by management
- Establish equipment inspection cadence and program of all pallet racking, carton flow racking, and shelving used throughout the distribution center network
- Maintains a clear and organized work environment by ensuring all work areas are kept tidy and free of hazards by regularly cleaning and organizing tools, equipment, and materials.
- Attend to emergencies when necessary
Engineering Technician Qualifications
The Engineering Technician role requires high mechanical aptitude with preferred experience leading or mentoring other technicians/maintenance personnel.
- 3+ years' experience working in a property maintenance role with vendor relationships experience highly preferred
- Experience with problem identification and problem solving: the technician needs the ability to assess a situation and proceed in the most efficient, safe way
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

- Ability to react quickly and move quickly to various locations throughout the building as needed by the operation
