The role: We are searching for a senior system engineer to join our PHY team developing high-speed links (>32Gbps, PAM4) for graphics and other future technologies. The role is to understand the system limitations and architect solutions for SI, PI, and that provide the PHY/Link with the best PPA trade-off. Work closely with the SI and PI teams to drive the architecture proposals. The role also involves developing/maintaining system models in Matlab/Python or other equivalent environments to help provide architectural trade-offs, SI/routing studies, ball map proposals, power integrity, understand equalizer solutions, adaptation schemes, etc.
The person: The successful candidate will possess all aspects of signal and power integrity. Excellent understanding of S-parameters, channel response, equalizer trade-offs. Experience with implementing various adaptation algorithms in Matlab, Python, etc. Good understanding of various analog impairments (distortion, noise, jitter, etc.). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills along with attention to details. Must be a self-starter, able to drive tasks independently and efficiently to completion. Strong/effective communication skills. Enthusiastic team-first mentality. Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers. Relevant academic background (M. degree preferred) and at least 10 years' progressive experience.
Key responsibilities: Implement and maintain system model for link budgeting and analysis. Drive link budgeting studies using system model and arrive at optimal specifications. IO/Link model generation. Work with analog engineers to model critical aspects of PHY provide critical feedback to PHY engineers on model performance vs spec over design cycle.
Preferred experience: Implementation of system model in Matlab/Python to understand system trade-offs. Develop link budgets and drive trade-off analysis for PHY specifications. SI and PI for package, PCB, or SOCs. Implementing algorithms in firmware, and post silicon bring up efforts. At least 10 years' progressive experience in high-speed links. Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments, Matlab, C, Python.
Academic credentials: Relevant academic background (Master's degree preferred).
