Project Engineer

This position is responsible for leading large capital projects, encompassing tasks such as evaluation, benefit-cost analysis, budgeting, writing specifications, initiating contracts, tracking costs, ordering equipment, and quality assurance of installations. The role also involves updating procedures and drawings. The ideal candidate should be prepared to handle challenging projects that require multi-discipline work, including civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to collaborate effectively with plant personnel, vendors, and contractors. The role demands sufficient technical and engineering knowledge to assist system owners in their daily responsibilities, coordinate projects during unit outages, manage project budgets, develop long-term maintenance strategies, and provide technical support to the plant.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor plant performance and make recommendations to improve heat rate.
  • Utilize computer business tools to develop and justify budgets, write work orders, order materials, develop project schedules, and monitor equipment.
  • Initiate, troubleshoot, and review root cause analyses for system equipment failures.
  • Work with OEMs and system owners at other plants to stay updated on upgrades or concerns that affect the plant and communicate these needs to plant management, corporate management, and peer groups.

Essential Skills:

  • Critical knowledge of fossil power plant cycles and ability to diagnose problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals including craft personnel, support staff, and management.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, time management, project management, facilitation, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivation and demonstrated initiative.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in project planning, design, project coordination, estimation, and project scheduling.
  • Skills in electrical, mechanical, and construction engineering.
  • Experience in construction management, project engineering, power plant engineering, and chemical engineering.
  • Knowledge of change order processes.
  • Qualifications in power plant outage, construction management, and project management.

Work Environment:

This role is based onsite at an AL PWR Plant in Gaston. The position requires physical capability to work in an industrial plant environment and availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, AL.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $33.65/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
