Patient Financial Services Associate

The Patient Financial Services Associate is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the Patient Financial Services department. The majority of their work is to process the non-electronic correspondence and serve as the local mail processor. This role is critical in maintaining efficient operations and ensuring excellent service to patients regarding their financial matters.
Schedule and Training: Monday - Friday. Hybrid - required to be in office 3/5 days a week. Depending on the position and associated requirements, there may be additional mandatory training requirements that are outside of your scheduled shift.
Essential Functions
- Sort, open, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail accurately and in a timely manner.
- Process administrative billing/denial issues that do not require follow-up or escalation.
- Perform billing workflows to resolve correspondence dashboard.
- Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned, including claim scrubbing and credentialing data entry.
- Assist with verifying insurance coverage and coordinating patient benefits to ensure accurate billing.
- File, maintain, and organize physical documents and records in accordance with departmental standards.
- Prepare, print, and support the mailing of patient statements and collection letters.
- Support Patient Financial Services Specialists with making outbound calls associated with patient liability.
- Provide general administrative support to the billing department, including data entry, document preparation, and task coordination.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field, preferred.
- 1+ years of experience in healthcare billing, patient accounts, or a similar role, preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with the ability to create and interpret spreadsheets and reports.
- Experience with medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly and professionally.
- Customer service-oriented with the ability to handle sensitive financial discussions with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.

Working Conditions
- Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than your scheduled hours per week or work outside of regular business hours to complete essential duties of this job.
- Ability to work at a computer/workstation for prolonged periods of time.

- Exposure to sensitive and confidential information.
- Occasional reaching and lifting of small objects and operating office equipment.
- On-site presence required a minimum of 3 days per week to support non-electronic processes. Remote work available for the remaining workdays.
