HR Assistant

We are looking for a detail-oriented HR Assistant to join our team on a part-time, contract basis in Portland, Oregon. In this role, you will support daily HR operations, ensuring the accuracy and organization of employment documentation while contributing to the onboarding process for union employees. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and can manage sensitive information with discretion.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the onboarding process for new union employees, ensuring all necessary steps are completed efficiently and accurately.

• Coordinate and manage background checks to maintain compliance with organizational standards.

• Maintain and organize employment records, including Social Security forms, benefit elections, and enrollment documents.

• Assist in administering the organization's volunteer program, ensuring smooth operations and effective communication.

• Support compliance-related tasks by managing filings and ensuring adherence to legal requirements.

• Collaborate on HR system setup, including data entry and process improvements to enhance functionality.

• Provide general support for day-to-day HR activities, ensuring smooth workflow and addressing employee inquiries.

• Ensure all employment-related documentation is properly filed and accessible for audits or internal reviews.

• Communicate effectively with employees and stakeholders to address HR-related concerns and provide guidance.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in Human Resources administration or a similar role.

• Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) and its applications.

• Proficiency in managing onboarding processes and employee relations.

• Experience handling background checks and maintaining confidential information.

• Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.

• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members and external partners.

• Knowledge of compliance and employment regulations.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities within deadlines.
