Environmental Services Technician

The Environmental Services Technician, under the direction and supervision of the Housekeeping Manager, supports the housekeeping staff by performing routine and non-routine tasks such as trash removal, washing windows, cleaning common areas, cleaning carpets, and stripping and waxing floors. Pay rate for this position starts at $15.50/hr. and is commensurate with experience. Essential job functions include removing trash from main collection points and hauling it to the dumpsters; tearing down cardboard boxes for disposal; cleaning trash rooms and utility rooms and other public spaces such as restrooms and kitchens; vacuuming and washing floors; cleaning sinks and countertops; wet mopping floors; completing side duties according to check sheets; supporting the preventative maintenance cleaning programs with cleaning of carpets, stripping and waxing floors; cleaning licensed areas carpeting immediately if soiled with bodily fluids in both resident rooms and public spaces; assisting housekeeping staff with moving furniture or cleaning out vacated units; assisting Facilities team with various tasks as needed; cleaning and maintaining environmental services equipment; reporting damaged or unsafe equipment to the Lead or Housekeeping Manager; performing all work in a safe manner, reporting safety hazards immediately; using and storing all cleaning chemicals properly; displaying wet floor signs at all times when wet mopping and removing wet floor signs after floor has dried; being knowledgeable of emergency procedures and reporting emergencies to Security as necessary; maintaining positive interaction with residents, guests, and other employees; complying with all Williamsburg Landing policies and procedures including those addressing attendance, standards of conduct, dress, safety, and personal hygiene; keeping uniform clean and neat; maintaining infection control standards including proper hand washing, and use of hair nets and gloves; and performing other duties as assigned. Position is required to perform tasks in a pet-friendly environment.

Qualifications include the ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; prior work experience in a similar environmental services environment is preferred; and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include being pleasant, tactful, and courteous with residents; willingness to perform repetitive daily tasks; ability to lift and carry a minimum of 75 pounds; ability to climb steps, ladders, and reach overhead; ability to stoop, kneel, lean over, and climb stairs frequently throughout the work day; must possess exhibited initiative and good judgment; ability to use floor scrubbing, stripping and waxing equipment as well as carpet extracting equipment and supplies in a safe manner; ability to work some weekend and holiday shifts; ability to perform housekeeping duties in a pet friendly environment and understanding pet needs and behaviors, including cleaning households and common spaces where pets are present.
