Avionics Development Engineer

Our goal is to be Earth's most customer centric company, and we are just getting started. We need people who want to join an ambitious program that continues to push the state of the art in space-based systems design. Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. We are looking for the next member of our avionics development team who are building critical components for Amazon Leo satellites. We are looking for an exceptional engineer who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to deliver hardware.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Design digital and analog circuits in collaboration with various teams.
  • Perform ECAD schematic capture of circuit designs.
  • Lead design reviews of hardware systems; such as architecture, schematic, PCB layout reviews.
  • Develop bring-up test plans, as well as leading qualification and production test plan development.
  • Lead debug efforts for avionics and power subsystems.
  • Lead requirement derivation and traceability for hardware subsystems.
  • Support subsystem production ramp and larger system integration.
  • Be a technical leader/role model; instilling best practices across the full development lifecycle.

A day in the life:

As an Electrical Engineer, you will work in a multi-disciplinary environment to design and deliver hardware for space. This requires the ability to work from concept to production. Candidates must be comfortable to work in the lab to debug and verify their designs. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment where product owners are expected to deliver results by solving technical problems quickly.

Our team is responsible for delivering production hardware subsystems for the satellite gateway assembly. We take ownership and work hard to deliver the highest quality solutions to support the long-term success of Amazon Leo. This team consists of a broad set of technical backgrounds, and we look forward to welcoming people that are excited to help us deliver broadband internet to underserved communities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hardware engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience in using ECAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout review.
  • 5+ years of experience board bring up and debugging in lab environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
