Position Summary
The Thermal Engineer supports new product development. The Thermal Engineer acts as a technical resource between internal groups, such as marketing, product management, application engineering, customer technical support, and manufacturing. The Thermal Engineer provides direct daily support to NPDI projects, by coordinating the engineering deliverables and creating detail documentation that will support part selection and design intend. Follow up, escalation, and problem resolution are part of his daily activities, taking care of maintaining alignment with broader areas.
Understands the products, suggesting ideas and improvements back to group.
Assists with creation, reviewing, and systems-entry of new product specifications, ECNs, tests, procedures, user manuals, submittal drawings, and sales literature.
Develop team experience on thermal and refrigeration design tools.
Working with contract resources and/or manufacturers for prototype/production builds.
Assists with troubleshooting of escalated or re-occurring field issues.
Design and performs testing plans.
Works closely with technicians and junior engineers, providing technical support and guidance.
Collaborates with other groups, including Electrical, Mechanical, Control engineers, System test, customer support, and manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Provides technical leadership to internal Vertiv functions - marketing, sales, application engineering, customer technical support and service, and manufacturing.
Lead technical development.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Thermal or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Master's degree on Thermal science preferred.
4 - 8 Years of engineering on Direct expansion, Chilled Water and Hydronic refrigeration system development/Design.
Must be capable of having a comprehensive understanding of the Refrigeration system so a design or selection of its components can be done from scratch.
Working proficiency of mechanical and thermal design concepts.
Ability to follow, create, and organize testing and instructional procedures.
Strong mechanical CAD tools experience primarily for review of thermal designs.
Experience with thermal design software such as Refprop, Colidesinger or equivalent analysis package.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve (and prevent) a wide range of problems quickly and logically.
Excellent planning, organizing, documentation, and communication skills.
Ability to multitask and operate in cross functional Global Development Teams.
Fluency in English.
Physical & Environmental Demands
The role is primarily based on a manufacturing facility, requiring regular site visits and interaction with production teams.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols.
The role involves extended periods of sitting in front of a computer.
Occasional standing or walking may be required during meetings, presentations, or site visits.
