The Military Department at the State of Vermont is seeking an armed civilian Force Protection Officer (FPO) supporting the Air National Guard Security Forces Squadron at the Burlington Air National Guard Base. This position is responsible for securing and safeguarding military aircraft, hangers and other specialized buildings, controlled areas, explosives, and ammunition against attack, sabotage, espionage, damage, or loss. The FPO will control the entry of military and civilian personnel, contractors, VIPs, and visitors to the Base, flight line, and other restricted areas. Additionally, the FPO will provide limited military law enforcement services and may work in a military 911 dispatch center. This position may work rotating shifts for 8 1/2 hours per day. Candidates should have experience in either the military, law enforcement, or security work and be able to work long periods alone including night hours and inclement weather.
The FPO will be expected to work night and weekend shifts, safely operate around moving aircraft, work in restricted areas, be exposed to sensitive classified information, and be frequently alone in adverse weather conditions, all while wearing heavy equipment. Integrity, honesty, and tact are critical in dealing with VIPs, installation military and civilian employees, guests, and the general public. Some exposure to dangerous situations is occasionally encountered. Incumbents are expected to carry firearms. Must wear a uniform and body armor.
