This Senior Family Services Worker role with the Central Intake & Emergency Services Unit (CIES) is a part-time, job-share position. CIES operates Vermont's statewide child protection hotline, which runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. The schedule will be discussed during interviews, but it will include one weekend shift each week (Saturday or Sunday), a Friday 4 p.m.–12 a.m. shift, and one weekday day shift. After the initial training period, the position offers a hybrid schedule with eligibility for at least one remote workday per week.

CIES is the State of Vermont's system for receiving child abuse and neglect reports and managing after-hours emergencies involving child safety, children in state custody, delinquency, and youth whose behaviors are beyond their caregivers' control.

Duties include:

  • Answer the child protection hotline and gather essential information from callers regarding alleged abuse or neglect.
  • Document reports in the state's reporting system.
  • Review reports to determine whether allegations meet acceptance criteria under department policy.
  • Assess child safety and determine appropriate agency responses.
  • Coordinate after-hours emergency responses and HESOC staffings.
  • Provide support and supervision to district Family Services Workers after hours.
  • Arrange foster care and other placements for children in DCF custody.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, mental health agencies, and community partners during child safety emergencies.
  • Offer information and referrals to foster parents and community agencies.
  • Supervise staff and perform related administrative functions.
