Senior Cyber Security Engineer - Coveware

Coveware by Veeam is in search of a Senior Cyber Security Engineer to join their team. Coveware is a rapidly growing, fully distributed company, headquartered in Westport, CT. Coveware is a category defining ransomware incident response firm that empowers victims of cyber extortion to recover their hostaged data with transparency, efficiency and integrity. Ransomware identification, negotiation, cryptocurrency payment and decryption services are bundled together to collect and share data with victims in a similar situation. The data collection and recovery is enabled by the development of both proprietary and open-source software with the goal of enabling and empowering victims of cyber extortion, regardless of their technical ability or budget.

The position will consist of hands-on software engineering to build digital forensic collectors using Coveware's Recon utility. Responsibilities will include feature development and build pipeline support/maintenance for Windows, Linux and ESXi builds. Qualified applicants will have the inclination and ability to develop creative solutions that keep our incident response products and services a step ahead. You will research and prototype new products; craft research for both internal and external publication and assist in periodic technical support on our most challenging cases.

This role is remote within the US, but we are prioritizing candidates based in Eastern time for team alignment.

Your tasks will include:

  • Build digital forensic collectors using Coveware's Recon utility.
  • Develop features and provide build pipeline support/maintenance for Windows, Linux, and ESXi builds.
  • Develop creative solutions to stay ahead in incident response products and services.
  • Research and prototype new products.
  • Craft research for both internal and external publication.
  • Assist in periodic technical support on challenging cases.
  • Identify and define vulnerabilities & IOCs of Coveware clientele through the gathering and analysis of public and proprietary data.
  • Perform hands-on technical analysis of competitive market offerings, including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for Coveware to develop differentiated approaches.
  • Collect, interpret, and share up-to-date technical and competitive market information.
  • Participate in the definition and scope of Coveware's product portfolio

What we expect from you:

  • Intimate knowledge of cyber threats, malware, APTs, exploits, and vulnerabilities
  • Cyber-security systems engineering
  • Expert Programming/Scripting capabilities (C++ 23, Rust, Python)
  • Expert Github Actions knowledge for managing CI/CD
  • Experience with native development for MacOS
  • AWS S3, AWS API Gateway
  • Ability to analyze and research non-standard malware and cyber security threats
  • Team player, able to work in a multidisciplinary remote team
  • Quick self-learning of new technologies and new business requirements (advantage)
  • Excellent communication skills
