About the Role

As a Backend Product Engineer, you'll design and scale the systems that power real-time voice AI for hundreds of thousands of developers. Your work will focus on reliability, performance, and security—ensuring Vapi can meet enterprise-grade demands while innovating quickly.

What You'll Do

Design and implement backend services in Node.js/TypeScript (experience with Go or Python a plus)

Build APIs and infrastructure powering real-time voice interactions

Drive improvements in system performance, scalability, and reliability

Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver seamless end-to-end product features

Elevate security, compliance, and observability across backend systems

Who You Are

Strong backend fundamentals, with experience in distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure

3+ years of backend engineering, with at least 1 year at a startup (<100 employees)

Proven track record shipping complex features to production at scale

Comfortable balancing speed with rigor in system design and security

Self-starter who thrives in dynamic, fast-moving environments
