Development & Engineering (D&E) Team

The Development & Engineering (D&E) team drives the technology, innovation, and new development of data center infrastructure across Vantage's companywide portfolio. D&E evaluate new sites, drives cost and schedule in line with corporate goals and serve as subject matter experts across the entire project lifecycle from concept through commissioning. The team collaborates with Sales, Operations and management along the way. D&E also work hand in hand with the Construction team to come up with a vertically integrated design and ensures new and existing standards and designs are executed effectively.

Position Overview

Vantage is looking for an engineer to help lead design and engineering for the largest individual cost center within the construction process and become engaged in all technical aspects, with specialized focus on electrical infrastructure. You will be presented with complex engineering challenges and be asked to bring them to resolution with all the tools at your disposal. You will architect, engineer and design new products, system topologies and ensure standards are executable for each project. You will evaluate designs and provide engineering analysis to balance CAPEX and OPEX costs, quality, and speed to market.

Vantage has a very collaborative work environment, and you will need to assume responsibility to interface and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, customers and contractors. Vantage's D&E team is engaged in the company's sales process, and we leverage our internal engineers to cater our product offerings to meet the ever-evolving needs of our customer base. This means you will work with the subject matter experts of our customers to translate requirements to tangible solutions. Your role will have a meaningful impact on the bottom-line profitability and success of the company.

Essential Job Functions

  • Architect electrical system topologies to balance cost, speed, and quality
  • Lead innovation initiatives, including emerging technology evaluation, product development, and patents
  • Develop and maintain global engineering standards and ensure consistent execution across projects
  • Oversee and review engineering studies, design plans, and system/equipment submittals
  • Aid in technical assessment of assets for merger and acquisition opportunities
  • Coordinate with internal and external engineering teams to ensure deliverables to Operations are streamlined, optimized, and aligned with business needs
  • Perform value engineering analyses and recommend systems based on ROI and IRR
  • Develop and maintain sustainability benchmarking and innovations to incorporate sustainable technology in a cost-effective manner.
  • Define and maintain minimum requirements for system sequences of operation
  • Use engineering tools and judgment to conduct (and/or review) analyses, including:
    • Load Analysis and Failure Scenario Calculation
    • Short-circuit and overcurrent protection device coordination studies
    • Arc Flash mitigation studies
    • Distribution analysis, including: voltage drop and underground duct bank heat effect (Neher-McGrath) calculations
    • Lighting photometric studies
  • Support Sales during tours, RFP response, provide technical subject matter expertise, and coordinate customer build to suit solutions
  • Additional duties as assigned from time to time by management

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college
  • Substantial experience in electrical power design and construction required, 15+ years preferred
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or UK Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) preferred.
  • Data Center and/or mission critical experience is required
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, Word, AmpCalc and ETAP modeling software
  • Working knowledge of critical power infrastructure within a data center
  • Working knowledge of all building and fire codes ordinances
  • Travel required is expected to be 15-25%, but may increase over time as the business evolves

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $165-185K Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
