Operation Coordinator

As an Operation Coordinator, you play a direct and critical role in life-saving and life enriching outcomes for dogs and cats. This entry level position exposes you to non-profit animal sheltering including veterinary shelter medicine, animal husbandry, fear free animal handling, and disease control. The Ops Coordinator ensures the day to day care of cats and dogs in Valley Humanes care. This role provides a variety of support to shelter animals, mentors community volunteers, and works closely with the veterinary team. Working at Valley Humane provides a wonderful opportunity to make a lifesaving difference.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Follow cleaning and care protocols to ensure animal husbandry standards.
  • Monitor and report animal behavior including possible medical concerns to Operations Manager and Medical Coordinator.
  • Maintain adequate cleaning supplies and materials.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, fear free living environment for all cats and dogs in Valley Humane's care.
  • Support medical team and Operations Manager with intake, flow, and placement of animals.
  • Utilize Fear Free animal care and handling to help reduce stress and increase quality of life for all Valley Humane cats and dogs.
  • Work with Volunteer Program Manager to report volunteer issues, including exceptional service and areas for improvement.
  • Support animal intake, foster program, and adoptions.
  • Utilize PetPoint animal management system for individual animal information.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Ensure Volunteer Program is kept up-to-date on changes to animal care SOPs.
  • Create and maintain animal records.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the building.
  • Ensures safe work environment by following safety guidelines for staff, volunteers and the public.
  • Provide quality customer service to clients, volunteers and staff while actively promoting our mission, services, programs and events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to effectively mentor and guide volunteers.
  • Great team player with a can-do attitude.
  • Basic knowledge of care and treatment of cats and dogs, including handling, training, feeding, and cleaning.
  • Detail-oriented: ability to recognize urgency, prioritize and act quickly.
  • Exercise good judgment when dealing with confidential information.
  • Computer skills in a Windows environment and other computer programs.
  • Available to work weekends, evenings and holiday shifts.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Work requires lifting and carrying records, equipment, and animals weighing up to 40 lbs.; requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Will be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
  • Execute repetitive tasks with few breaks
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of times.
