Purpose
The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Restricted Research Compliance Manager to support the University's restricted research program involving export-controlled and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). This role emphasizes regulatory compliance, oversight of CUI research activities, and coordination with stakeholders to ensure secure and compliant research practices.
Responsibilities
- Ensure institutional compliance with export control regulations and CUI requirements.
- Serve as a liaison between researchers and information technology teams to support secure research practices. Provide project management coordination to onboard research projects into a restricted research compliant environment.
- Monitor and enforce protocols for handling export-controlled and CUI data.
- Maintain documentation and records related to compliance audits, incidents, and restricted research activities.
- Make export classifications for products, software, and technology.
- Stay current with export control regulations, NIST SP 800-171, and other applicable standards.
- Support audits and investigations related to export and CUI compliance.
- Develop and maintain workflows, forms, standard operating procedures, and documentation to support secure research environments. Support maintenance of policies and procedures.
- Monitor and analyze security alerts; report irregularities and support incident response.
- Coordinate onboarding and access control for researchers working with restricted data.
- Manage visitor access and escort procedures for controlled environments.
- Analyze research awards and contracts to identify security requirements.
- Track and manage budgets, expenses, and invoicing for restricted research operations.
- Build and maintain relationships with researchers, IT teams, building staff, and other stakeholders.
- Provide training and guidance on compliance procedures and security protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in information management, international business, or other relevant field.
- 3+ years' experience in project management, compliance monitoring, information security, or policy enforcement.
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. person status required.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to analyze complex data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain integrity of secure research operations.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Knowledge of export control regulations and CUI standards.
- Experience in research compliance or secure data management.
- Familiarity with access control systems and secure facility procedures.
- Familiarity with a university research environment.
Salary Range
$90,000 + depending on qualifications
