To perform administrative, clerical, and receptionist duties; process specimens for the Laboratory.

  • Performs receptionist duties for the Lab, such as: courteously greets patients and visitors to the lab and directs them to the proper area; asks patients for I.D., finds lab orders in the EHR, and accessions orders in EHR and attaches insurance information with the order appropriately; answers or directs patient's questions to appropriate personnel; verifies laboratory orders, generates labels, and releases orders if specimens have been obtained; verifies specimens are properly labeled; instructs patients on the proper techniques for specimen collection and any dietary requirements; enters outside provider orders into EHR and processes orders; answers telephone in a professional manner, stating name and department; transfers technical inquiries to appropriate section; relays patient information to physicians; opens and closes the lab reception and office each morning and evening and follow proper procedures.
  • Performs administrative and clerical duties for the Lab, such as: notifies Supervisor and Laboratory Assistant Manager of discrepancies, incidents, and other concerns in a timely manner; accurately files reports and requisitions; verifies information regarding laboratory testing to be performed in-house and at a reference lab; generates labels accurately; confirms that any documentation submitted is correct; receives specimens from UHS clinics; checks specimen labels, tests ordered, and other related instructions; receives reference lab reports and distributes copies appropriately; communicates with reference lab routinely to obtain information regarding tests, codes, prices, and specimen requirements and to ensure that tests are performed accurately; audits "Do Not File" insurance requests and reconcile appropriately; audits lab billing reports in EHR and reconciles errors in orders processing appropriately; receives and processes physician's orders for laboratory tests.
  • Participates in other activities as appropriate and assigned.
  • Exhibits professionalism, teamwork, and exceptional customer service in all aspects of work.
  • Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance patterns.

High school graduation or GED.

Bachelor's degree with one year of experience, or five years of experience.

One year of experience in a clinical setting.

Experience using Electronic Health Records, Billing Software, including Microsoft Word, Excel software, Windows environment.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a professional demeanor.

Accuracy in grammar and punctuation.

Outstanding organizational skills.

Strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to learn tasks quickly with minimal training and supervision.

Flexibility with shifting priorities.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of protected health information.

Regular and punctual attendance.

Exhibits customer service behavior and excellent public relations skills in all aspects of work.

One or more years of experience in laboratory setting, particularly involving: processing and verifying laboratory orders; understanding specimen collection and handling requirements; navigating insurance verification and billing workflows.

Experience using laboratory information systems.

Associate degree in biology, health administration, or related field.

Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA), or similar.

Experience supporting laboratory technicians and clinicians in a fast-paced environment.
