VFW Department Service Officer

Position title is VFW Department Service Officer. Assist members of the veterans' community in the preparation, development and submission of claims for veterans' benefits to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Analyze veterans' applications/claims and electronic folders, develop issues for use in the appellate process, participates in the VFW Veterans' Outreach Program, counsel members of the veterans' community on the Department of Veterans Affairs, federal and state agency benefits. Criminal background investigation will be required. Out-of-town travel required two weeks each year for training. Applicant must be eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. If not already a member, they must join the Veterans of Foreign Wars prior to their hire date. To qualify for membership in the VFW you MUST meet the following TWO requirements: 1: Honorable Service -- must have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and either received a discharge of Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) or be currently serving. 2: Service in a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters. This can be proven by any of the following: - An authorized campaign medal - Receipt of Hostile Fire Pay or Imminent Danger Pay (verified by a military pay statement) - Service in Korea for 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days.
