The starting pay for this position ranges from $12.00 to $13.20 per hour, depending upon experience.
General Purpose: Performs a variety of routine duties as needed to ensure the success of scheduled events, programs, games, and competitions for either youth or adult participants.
Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Recreation or Arts Program Supervisor or Recreation Site Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Provides direct leadership to participants enrolled in general recreation activities or arts programs. Assists in implementing a variety of recreational activities such as arts and crafts, games and special events. Renders routine first aid to injured participants. Attends regularly scheduled events, games, programs, or departmental training to assure efficient operations; sets up equipment and assures availability of program resources; serves as official departmental representative; mediates disputes between players, spectators and officials; controls the game or event by enforcing established rules, regulations and requirements. May assist with the operation and activities of such programs as theater productions, youth choir, community choir, community band, instructional classes, instructional camps and special events. May assist with theatrical design, including scenic painting, prop construction, etc. Performs as official score keeper; makes final determinations related to winning teams; assists in field preparation and maintenance as necessary; ensures proper maintenance of equipment and recreation facilities. Performs scheduled upkeep and maintenance of facility and/or park; cleans floors, walls, windows, etc.; sweeps and dusts. Completes required reports and submits them in a timely manner; renders routine first aid to injured participants.
Education and Experience: Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform the listed and related duties.
Special Qualifications:
Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Some knowledge of the rules and regulations of a variety of sports and recreational activities; that are used in a comprehensive community recreation program. OR knowledge of the methods and techniques in relation to the arts a culture programs, ability to assist with classes, camps and all other arts and culture programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, various age groups, other organizations and the public; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Work Environment: Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching. Work requires flexible schedules including evenings, weekends and holidays.
