Peer Support Position At Seasonal Warming Center

Location: Red Warehouse --- 2615 South State Street, Provo, Utah Season: November 17, 2025 -- March 2, 2026 (must be available starting November 3 for training) Schedule: Evening and overnight hours, including some weekends and holidays as needed Status: Seasonal, Part-Time (up to 14 hours/week) Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Position Summary: Peer Support plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment at the seasonal Warming Center, which provides life-saving overnight shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness during the winter months. Working under the direction of the Warming Center Coordinator and Supervisor, Peer Support staff draw on their own lived experience with homelessness, recovery, or related challenges to offer encouragement, build rapport, model positive behaviors, and support guests in accessing resources as part of a trauma-informed, team-based approach.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Guest Support and Engagement
    • Build trusting, supportive relationships with guests while maintaining healthy boundaries.
    • Provide encouragement, mentorship, and de-escalation support.
    • Help ensure guests follow center rules and expectations.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork
    • Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and partners.
    • Communicate guest concerns or safety issues promptly.
  • Resources and Referrals
    • Share information about community services and housing resources.
    • Encourage and assist guests in connecting to supportive services.
    • Help shape resource and referral programs.
  • Reporting and Compliance
    • Always maintain confidentiality.
    • Complete data entry, sign-in logs, and incident reports.
    • Follow all Warming Center policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Lived experience with homelessness, recovery, or related challenges (required) Certified Peer Support Specialist training and certification (required) At least 6 months of experience in peer support, human services, or related role preferred Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills; ability to remain calm under pressure Knowledge of local resources and social service agencies preferred Reliable transportation: valid driver's license and good driving record preferred Flexibility to adjust schedule as needed Must pass a BCI Background Check Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
