Salary: $72,000.00 - $107,000.00 Annually Location: Cedar City, UT Job Type: Full-time Faculty Division: Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Closing: Continuous FLSA: Exempt Position Summary: The Department of Engineering and Technology at Southern Utah University (SUU) invites applications for a faculty position within the Electrical Engineering program at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor. This is a full-time faculty position to begin in Fall 2026 and is open to candidates with either (a) a Master's degree (for a non-tenure-track appointment) or (b) a Ph.D. (for a tenure-track appointment) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field at one of the ranks listed above. The position will be at the SUU campus in Cedar City, Utah. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment and ability to teach at the undergraduate level. This position includes benefits that may include relocation expenses to hired candidates for on-site employment. First consideration date: 12/04/2025.

Essential Functions

  • Teaching undergraduate engineering courses, using effective teaching strategies, curriculum development, and mentorship of students.
  • Playing an active role in advancing and shaping the growth of the Electrical Engineering program in coordination with related programs in the Department of Engineering and Technology and within the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at SUU.
  • Fostering curriculum alignment.
  • Expanding student opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure programs remain flexible, innovative, and responsive to student and industry needs.
  • All SUU faculty are expected to conduct scholarly activity (for a tenure-track/tenure appointment).
  • Actively participating in service committees.
  • May have other duties as needed to support a robust and dynamic environment for student learning.
  • Experience with ABET accreditation of Engineering programs is a plus.
  • SUU Faculty are expected to provide quality educational experiences for SUU students taking their classes and to maintain a student-centered learning environment.
  • Non-tenure-track faculty teach 30 credit hours per year (roughly equivalent to five 3-credit courses a semester).
  • Tenure-track faculty teach 24 credit hours per year (roughly equivalent to four 3-credit courses a semester).
  • Faculty are generally expected to teach in a face-to-face format.
  • Although Southern Utah University is primarily a teaching institution, the tenure-track faculty have an expectation to engage collaboratively with students and/or peers on scholarly activity that results in peer-reviewed publications. No such expectation exists for non-tenure-track faculty.
  • Faculty actively participate and collaborate with the department to enhance and maintain a robust curriculum based on continual program evaluation from internal review, industry advisory board feedback, student feedback, and accreditation review input. Faculty will also be expected to participate fully in accreditation review and continuous improvement activities. All faculty must complete service activities within the department, college, and/or university.

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications: Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field (degree determines whether appointment is non-tenure-track or tenure-track). Ability to deliver quality instruction for undergraduate electrical engineering courses. Excellent written, oral communication, interpersonal-relationship and leadership skills. Evidence of research/scholarly activity for tenure-track applicants. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated teaching experience in one or more undergraduate Electrical Engineering topic areas, including: Circuits and Electronics. Electromagnetics and Communication Systems. Power and Energy Systems. Control and Automation. Computer Engineering. Emerging Technologies, such as AI and machine learning for EE, nanotechnology, photonics, biomedical devices, etc. Experience with ABET accreditation of engineering programs. Industry experience relevant to undergraduate engineering programs is highly desired Experience using electronic test equipment, designing/assembling electrical systems, and/or circuit analysis and troubleshooting. Experience with computational techniques and tools for engineering analysis. Teaching experience with demonstrated accomplishment at the undergraduate level and evidence of continuous improvement efforts is highly desired. History of service, scholarly, and program development activities (primarily for tenure-track candidates), such as collaboration with other engineering and science faculty, service on department, college, and university committees, recruitment and advising of students, and experience advising student clubs focused on competing in collegiate engineering competitions.
