Summary About the Position: Direct and participate in the work of a firefighting crew. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Lead a crew of firefighters assigned to a major piece of motorized firefighting equipment such as a pumper or aerial ladder truck in firefighting and rescue operations. Distribute and balance workload among firefighting personnel; check work in progress; and resolve simple/informal complaints. Prepare reports, maintain/update daily rosters, and track time and attendance. Approve leave on a limited, case by case basis. Assist supervisor in administration, training, and operations functions in the Department. Respond to accidents and other emergencies both on and off the installation involving injury and illnesses, sometimes encountering situations which may be life threatening. Make an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and from a variety of prescribed protocols, select the one considered the most appropriate under the given circumstances; provide treatment as prescribed in the protocol selected. As a certified hazardous materials responder, direct and participate in hazardous material spill response training and actual spill/incident responses and containment.

Specialized Experience: Your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires. 2) Performing emergency rescue operations. 3) Responding to and controlling hazardous materials incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-07).
Additional Qualification Requirements: MUST possess and maintain the following Certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, and a State of Utah or National Registry EMT(NREMT) certification card. You must submit a copy of all of the above referenced certifications AND proof of age with your application package, if your application package does not contain a copy of required certifications AND proof of age your application will be marked as incomplete and you WILL NOT receive any further consideration. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
Education: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
