Data Center Engineer

The Data Center Engineer assists in both the design and implementation of all enterprise infrastructure within the data center boundary. Data Center boundary consists of Data Center, TSER (Telecommunications Service Entrance Room), TEC (Technology Equipment Center) and TDR- (Technology Distribution Room) locations within Hospitals, Clinics and all other Intermountain Health building locations. Data Center Engineer I also assists in supporting, creating and maintaining enterprise standards and following well-established industry standards. This professional demonstrates experience in aspects of Data Center design, implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting with the ability to deploy or integrate Data Center technology. Encompasses knowledge required to ensure the highest level of resiliency and uptime within this specialty area. Responsibilities include electrical, environmental, Security access, surveillance, monitoring, cable management and fire systems. Additionally, the Data Center Engineer I provides operational & engineering support to various stakeholders of a data center area, including Facilities, Physical Security, Third party providers, IT systems, storage, network, telecommunications and other customers. Typically helps support the design and assists in the development and approaches that are implemented by others. Works with others but can function independently with minimal oversight and direction. Provides technical and professional guidance to peers and works with technical contributors and team members. Position is open to Data Center Engineer Level I, II, OR III based on experience. Essential Functions

  • Supports and assists with Data Center Design and Implementation across the Enterprise.
  • Assists in the design, architecture, and implementation of Data Center infrastructure across the Enterprise, ensuring adherence to Intermountain Health's standards and specifications.
  • Assists with data center architecture and helps develop technical specifications for equipment or systems.
  • Supports and assists in the development and administration of business continuity or disaster recovery plans.
  • Supports, maintains, and monitors the Data Center boundary, including power, cooling, fire suppression, and the cable plant.
  • Assists with project Leadership: Supports Leaders routine projects and may assist with complex infrastructure projects, including cabling infrastructure implementation and decommissioning throughout the Data Center ecosystem.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitors and tests Data Center equipment performance, providing performance statistics and reports. Recommends, schedules, and performs Data Center improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Incident Response and On-Call Availability: Provides incident response within the Data Center boundary as needed and ensures on-call availability for emergencies throughout the Enterprise.
  • Assists and supports collaboration and Communication: Acts as a partner to IT, Facilities, and third-party consumers of Data Center services. Communicates and documents across diverse teams, projects, and programs.
  • Policy and Procedure Adherence: Plays an active role in preparing, maintaining, and adheres to policies and procedures, including formal standard operating procedures (SOP) and methods of procedure (MOP) for Data Center boundary operations. Inspects and verifies work to ensure compliance with Intermountain Health standards.
  • Assists and supports Capacity Planning and Inventory Management: Accountable for capacity planning across the Enterprise. Works with others to maintain equipment inventory, including lifecycle maintenance and its associated component inventory.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer I

Demonstrated basic level Data Center boundary experience, or any combination of equivalent education and experience. Demonstrates a deep understanding of Data Center MOP, SOP and Policies. Demonstrate project management experience. Certification BICSI Installer-1 or Installer-2 Demonstrate technical work experience. Infrastructure cabling planning, terminating and testing. Demonstrating optimum Data area environmental and how to test and troubleshoot. Demonstrate electrical deployments to Data Center areas as well as testing and troubleshooting. Demonstrate basic knowledge of electricity, HVAC, UPSs, cabling infrastructure, and fire suppression systems. Demonstrated basic knowledge of data and telephony demarcation. Experience with building and safety codes for data, telephone, and other NEC Class 2 cabling. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities. Hands-on troubleshooting experience. Demonstrated strong verbal/written communications skills, interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a dynamic team environment. A valid driver's license may be required for this position.

Engineer II

Demonstrate Senior level Data Center experience, or any combination of equivalent education and experience. Certification BICSI Installer-1 or Installer-2 Demonstrate technical work experience. Infrastructure cabling planning, terminating and testing. Demonstrating optimum Data area environmental and how to test and troubleshoot. Demonstrate electrical deployments to Data Center areas as well as testing and troubleshooting. Demonstrate basic knowledge of electricity, HVAC, UPSs, cabling infrastructure, and fire suppression systems. Demonstrated basic knowledge of data and telephony demarcation. Pay Scales

Engineer I- 35.64 - 56.12 USD Hourly Engineer II - 43.92 - 69.16 USD Hourly Engineer III - 54.12 - 85.20 USD Hourly

Physical Requirements

Preferred Qualifications State issued electrical or mechanical license. Current Professional Data Center certifications such as CNCDP (Certified Network Cabling Design Professional), Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) or Certified Data Center Specialist (CDCS). Certification for Electrical Technician or Telecommunication accreditation through organizations such as IACET. Certifications in various data center technologies, such as Cisco (CCNA). Electro/mechanical experience.

Physical Requirements

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.) May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
