Job Title: Liquid Handling Service Technician

This entry level position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, service, and repair of automated liquid handling systems (ALHS) and their integrated components, and offers opportunities to develop the skills necessary to become an engineer. Liquid Handling Service Technicians perform corrective and preventive maintenance under the guidance of Automated Liquid Handling Service Engineers and/or Lab Automation Engineers.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs troubleshooting, corrective and preventive maintenance on automated liquid handling systems and their integrated components.
  • Prepares for and executes equipment installation, operation, and performance qualifications.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repair of ALHS and integrated components.
  • Attends vendor training courses as assigned.
  • Assists in advanced troubleshooting of complex workflows on ALHS.
  • Maintain records of work performed with completed service including cost of time and materials.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies, equipment, reference materials and spare parts to complete assignments.
  • Move equipment and automation between labs and buildings.
  • Assists in liquid class and protocol validations as assigned.
  • Perform laboratory equipment inventory reviews and ensure all equipment records are accurate and up to date.
  • Participate in required safety training and other continuing education.
  • Demonstrate professional demeanor in all interactions, develop and maintain positive relationships internally and with outside vendors.
  • Meet all deadlines by effectively organizing time and work.

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Stooping, reaching, and mobility as needed.
  • Communicate frequently.
  • Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment.
  • Exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
  • Fine motor control.
  • Vision: having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity.

Qualifications:

  • Education Required: Associates Degree or better.
  • Education Preferred: Bachelor's Degree or better in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
  • Licenses & Certifications Preferred: Applicable ASCP or AAB.
  • Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science, Chemical or Biological Science, or closely related degree OR an Associate's degree with two (2) years of post-degree high complexity clinical diagnostic testing or equivalent experience with two (2) years directly related experience.
  • Experience Preferred: Experience operating laboratory automation systems, experience in maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory automation systems.
