New Glenn Upper Stage And Payload Accommodations (Gs2pa) Systems Engineer

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, specialists, and technicians, you will lead systems engineering, test, and launch operations efforts for recurring production and launch, and for the development of new capabilities for the New Glenn's Upper Stage and Payload Accommodations (GS2PA). We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Technical lead for system engineering, test, and launch operations for existing systems and the development of new capabilities for GS2PA.
  • Work across all GS2PA subsystems to execute complex trades and analyses and support integrated solutions to develop new capabilities.
  • Lead the development, allocation, and verification of requirements for these solutions.
  • Negotiate interfaces and coordinate between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the alignment and consistent implementation of New Glenn system engineering, test, and launch operations practices within GS2PA.
  • Develop health metrics to support insight into program health and tracking to major milestones.
  • Lead gated reviews and support New Glenn program and element level gated reviews.
  • Lead the development of the product operations through the integrated testing and operations lifecycle
  • Create documentation and requirements for how to operate a launch vehicle
  • Support development of integrated operational software, including those used for Built-In-Tests, Propellant Loading, Terminal Count, and flight
  • Support the creation of operating requirements across vehicle subsystems
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and appropriate integration of operating requirements
  • Support procedure development to accurately incorporate operating requirements
  • Review procedures, scripts, and displays used during vehicle operations
  • Assess, identify and support fixes to gaps in the concept of vehicle operations
  • Lead the GS2PA engineering team during integrated testing and launch operations and provide time-critical anomaly resolution decisions to disposition the pedigree of the flight hardware for safe and successful launch.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace engineering or other technical field.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in systems engineering, test, and launch operations on launch vehicles, spacecraft, or in other highly regulated industries.
  • Hands-on experience in developing, authoring, and executing integrated tests or operating launch vehicles
  • Experience with cryogenics, pneumatics, avionics, and rocket engine systems
  • Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety critical systems.
  • Ability to operate, make decisions, lead, and make forward progress in ambiguous environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and mentor junior systems engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strength in teaming and collaboration in a work environment, self-starter.
