Transport Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Transport Engineer to support large-scale wireless build initiatives, including spectrum upgrades, equipment swaps, and new site deployments. While a strong technical background is essential, this role also involves significant administrative responsibilities such as managing workflows, evaluating data, and processing ASRs with telecom vendors across the network footprint.

Key tasks include creating IP/port assignments, building network pathways, and coordinating with internal and external teams to ensure successful project completion. This position sits within the transport team but also overlaps with equipment engineering functions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting cross-functional teams in reviewing RFDS documents and cross-referencing with work orders
  • Uploading and communicating project details via workflow platforms, including images and descriptions
  • Managing high-volume, detail-oriented tasks with precision and consistency

Technical duties require extensive experience in transport engineering, along with strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. You will help develop monthly interconnect implementation plans that support macro sites, in-building systems, small cells, self-perform and third-party builds, ODAS, 5G, CRAN, VRAN, and MEC targets.

The transport team is responsible for:

  • Creating and issuing CIQs (IP/Port assignments)
  • Engineering new cells, trunks, switch growth, and circuit ordering
  • Managing carrier additions and provisioning

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Placing circuit orders with local exchange carriers for services such as dark fiber, EOS, EBH, and TLS
  • Documenting transport circuits and paths
  • Tracking and escalating order statuses to ensure timely delivery
  • Designing and implementing advanced transport technologies to support 5G rollout
  • Attending project meetings to report on progress and resolve issues
  • Managing vendor relationships to meet network milestones and activation dates
  • Collaborating across engineering disciplines to deliver optimal transport solutions
  • Developing trackers to improve data integrity, prioritization, and workflow
  • Aligning equipment growth projects with forecasted demand and organizational goals

Top skills and qualifications include:

  • Extensive knowledge of telecommunications transport workflows, with a strong focus on updating and maintaining network management systems for circuit inventory and provisioning.
  • 5+ years of experience coordinating internal and external teams for transport and circuit deployments, as well as equipment engineering within telecommunications projects.
  • Hands-on experience with operational logistics, including site prioritization, materials delivery, invoice and purchase order tracking, and overall project coordination.
  • Note: This role is heavily focused on database administration. Candidates must have solid experience with network management software such as Granite, CND, NetCracker, or Comarch OSS.

Required skills include:

  • Solid understanding of IPv4 and IPv6
  • Experience with circuit delivery, including ordering, activation, and uplifts to spectrum upgrades
  • Familiarity with C&D databases for segment and path design
  • Knowledge of performance metrics, bandwidth planning, router configuration, and IP provisioning

Pay and benefits:

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
