Support Services Assistant

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide assistance to the Support Service Section of the United States Attorney's Office. Responsibilities include processing supply requests, receiving deliveries, setting up audio and visual equipment, maintaining a log-in system for housekeeping and facilities maintenance requests, processing outgoing hand deliveries, and purchasing supplies. Answering the telephone system, receiving visitors, opening and distributing mail, maintaining an inventory of property, and producing written documents using office automation software are also part of the role. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress.

Qualifications

For the GS-5: Applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in Federal service or 4 years of education above high school. Specialized experience includes working in an office greeting visitors and answering phone calls, sorting and delivering incoming mail, maintaining and stocking supply room, and preparing various documents using word processing software.

For the GS-6: Applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes working in an office greeting visitors and operating a multi-line telephone system, handling mail services including processing all incoming and outgoing mail, ordering office supplies from various vendors, and preparing various documents using word processing software.

For the GS-7: Applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes working in an office greeting visitors and operating a multi-line telephone system, handling mail services including processing all incoming and outgoing mail, ordering office supplies from various vendors, and preparing various documents using word processing software.

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) and Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) provide selection priority for eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees and eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice, respectively. Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA) allows eligible veterans to apply and compete for positions announced under merit promotion procedures when the hiring agency is recruiting from outside its own workforce. Special Employment Consideration is available for persons with disabilities, veterans with a compensable service-connected disability of 30% or more, certain other veterans, spouses of certain members of the armed forces, and returning Peace Corps volunteers. All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
