Supervisory Medical Support Assistant

Plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and inpatient care. Full responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate MSA team leader, or equivalent administrative patient support staff in a non-VA medical inpatient, outpatient, or interdisciplinary setting. The two-page resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series.

Duties include:

  • Collaborative interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model
  • Daily oversight of assigned area
  • Direct supervision, guidance, and leadership to staff
  • Defining overall objectives, priorities, and deadlines
  • Assisting with unusual situations
  • Resolving complex problems to meet patient services
  • Mentoring and oversight regarding staff priorities
  • Management of staff schedules
  • Knowledge of computerized data entry and information processing systems
  • Ensuring database integrity by monitoring for accuracy and completeness
  • Extracting and analyzing data to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management
  • Quality assurance
  • Overseeing staff training and orientation
  • Knowledge of standard procedures, medical records, medical security of sensitive electronic files
  • Process improvement
  • Customer service
  • Evaluates new products, equipment, and systems to make recommendations for improved operations
  • Identifying educational or training needs
  • Evaluating performance and taking disciplinary action when necessary

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Selective Service Registration for males
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
  • Subject to background/security investigation
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
  • Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
