The first Hudson River vehicular tunnel was opened in 1927. It was considered an outstanding engineering achievement, whose principles are employed to this day. The Holland Tunnel was designated a National Historic Civil and Mechanical Engineering Landmark in 1984 by the American Society of Civil and Mechanical Engineers. In 1993, the tunnel was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of Interior.
Review drawings
Assist with all tours of facility buildings
Visit job sites
Attend meetings, prepare memoranda, gather information
Assist the Physical Plant Manager and/or the Senior Business Manager with all ongoing and planned construction activity and/or Administrative Unit projects at the Holland Tunnel
Assist with overseeing and coordinating various Holland Tunnel Facility projects
Take notes for meetings
Coordinate with other departments/units
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
Major in Engineering
Valid driver's license
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
Interest in public service and/or transportation
Willingness to learn
The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
The format is expected to be fully in-person

The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship @type and rising school year)
