The Sr Mgr, Software Engineering is responsible for helping to design and implement our vision for the future of the Lumen. They have broad experience with software development, product delivery, agile, DevOps and cloud computing. They are capable of leading their team by example and by contribution, as they develop and ship features. This role requires a love of learning and problem solving, and the ability to guide a team towards implementing architectures and solutions.
The Sr Mgr should also work closely with development teams to troubleshoot or fix any technical issues, while ensuring results-oriented execution, fostering collaboration, and focusing on the growth and development of individuals within their teams. Additionally, they will coordinate with offshore or near-shore managers and developers to delegate and oversee work being handed off, ensuring alignment of goals and successful delivery.
This role is designated as a fully remote position within the United States.
The Main Responsibilities
- Lead their team to deliver services and features that support Lumen's various business units.
- Collaborate with the product owner and their team to prioritize delivery and clarify requirements in terms of testability, consistency, and completeness.
- Advocate, adopt and coach their team on lean, agile, and DevOps engineering practices.
- Establish best practices and technology standards to support the delivery lifecycle including automation and security coverage.
- Support their teammates through HR processes such as career growth, performance reviews, and blocker removal.
- Work alongside others on the team to provide architectural and design guidance.
- Design and help their team design solutions that include cloud computing, infrastructure, distributed systems, microservices-oriented patterns, security and/or automation.

What We Look For in a Candidate
- Typically 7 years related experience and 2+ years previous manager-level leadership experience expected.
- Must have working experience with mastery in relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, GoLang, JavaScript, etc.).
- Ability to conceptualize, design, and implement scalable system architectures.
- Familiarity with modern technologies, including emerging technologies and industry trends, particularly within their domain of expertise (e.g., cloud platforms, Kubernetes, AI/ML, DevOps).
- Solid understanding of the telecommunications domain, including the functionality and routing mechanisms of Telephone Numbers and Toll-Free Numbers.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges:
$129,639 - $172,852 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$136,121 - $181,494 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$142,603 - $190,137 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
