This is a hands-on leadership role blending technical depth, process design, and people management. You'll lead engineers working on mission-critical payments systems while modernizing how software is built, tested, and delivered.
About the Role
As Software Engineering Manager, Payments, you'll be responsible for empowering engineers, improving workflows, and increasing delivery velocity by leveraging modern development practices and AI-enabled tooling. You'll establish strong engineering standards, drive adoption of tools that improve code quality and speed, and partner closely with product and leadership to ensure the team is aligned with business priorities.
What You'll Do
AI-Enabled Productivity & Engineering Enablement
Research, evaluate, and implement internal tools and frameworks that deliver measurable improvements in productivity and quality
Design and lead enablement and training initiatives to scale AI literacy across the engineering team
Identify and remove engineering bottlenecks using automation, diagnostics, and data-driven insights
Champion the practical use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, automated test generation, documentation assistants) across the full SDLC
Engineering Practice Leadership
Define and uphold modern engineering standards across code quality, testing, security, and documentation
Lead design and code reviews with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and AI-augmented workflows
Drive tool selection and standardization across CI/CD, testing frameworks, and secure development practices
Establish and evolve a mature Agile SDLC, including estimation, delivery planning, and execution standards
Ensure consistent use of tools such as Jira, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering metrics dashboards
Measurement, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Define and track key engineering KPIs (e.g., velocity, cycle time, defect rates, reliability)
Build visibility into engineering health and maturity for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
Lead continuous improvement initiatives informed by metrics, retrospectives, and team feedback
Team Leadership & Capacity Planning
Directly manage engineers, provide coaching, feedback, and career development support
