This position can be remote, but is hybrid (Tues-Thurs in office) if you reside less than 50 miles from a Nestle location. Travel is around 50%.

The Process Safety Mastership - Senior Manufacturing Mechanical Equipment Engineer is accountable for organizing, maintaining and coordinating the PSM/RMP program activities in the Nestle USA factories to ensure compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) standard and EPA's Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulations. You will also assist in communicating and educating employees and contractors aligned with the program, as well as Nestle internal policies and safety programs, to achieve the company goals and initiatives through the internal resources in the factories.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all elements of the PSM/RM Program are clearly defined, accurate and current.
  • Ensure recurrent activities like Process Hazard Analysis and compliance audits are conducted in the frequency required and track performance of eliminating identified gaps.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures are written and up to date for all applicable tasks, operators have been trained, and this knowledge has been assessed by a competent person.
  • Ensure mechanical integrity of the ammonia system is being followed as defined in the RMP/PSM Program.
  • Verify that Management of Change (MOC) has been properly filled out and approved at the factories before any ammonia related mechanical work is performed on the plant ammonia system.
  • Stay abreast of any changes in regulations, both nationally and regionally. Implement changes as necessary.
  • Ensure incident investigations are performed for all ammonia incidents and near misses. Keep accurate record of investigation reports and ensure corrective actions are tracked and completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the emergency planning and response plan as it pertains to ammonia incidents is accurate and useful. Also, work with the factories teams to ensure the minimum execution of one full-scale ammonia drill per year with the local response team and another drill with plant employees.
  • Prepare all documentation for submission to Federal, State, and local agencies for approval by plant and corporate personnel.
  • Ensure Nestle internal "Ammonia Safety Audits" are conducted as per requirement, prepare for the audit, track performance of eliminating identified gaps, and keep management updated.
  • In addition, as part of the Industrial Services team you should also have knowledge and responsibilities in the reliable, safe and efficient operations of:
    • Steam and hot water generation and distribution, including condensate recovery.
    • Refrigeration and Chilled water (and/or other cold medium) generation and distribution.
    • Potable and process water treatment, supply and distribution system
    • Compressed air generation and distribution
    • AHU & HVAC system
    • Wastewater system and treatment
    • Utilities installations and mechanical integrity
    • Energy efficiency and resource conservation of these utilities
  • Compliance with all federal, state, local, industry and internal Nestle requirements from design through operation and maintenance of the IS plant. Ensure all staff are aware of requirements and their responsibility. Keep updated documentation of the plant and its compliance including a strong change management process execution.
  • Be accountable for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the industrial services to meet the operation's demand. This includes guidance of the IS operators and technicians, providing direction, and developing their capability and performance. IS operation includes ensuring services are provided in the right quantity and quality, reliably and efficiently, minimizing cost and environmental impact.
  • Ensure that the IS equipment is maintained for safe reliable and long-term operation in a cost-effective manner including appropriate use of planned and predictive maintenance utilizing CMMS and Nestlé's Maintenance Strategy while minimizing the impact on production. This includes management of the associated cost within the maintenance budget.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of all utility systems minimizing the use of natural resources, energy, and the impact on the environment. Drive resource conservation and awareness within the facility in alignment with Nestle.
  • Support improvement and execution of capital and operational projects within the IS area ensuring safety concepts are included by design.
  • Close coordination with other departments such as quality, safety, production, finance, human resources, as well as within engineering (maintenance, stores, automation, projects) and externally with vendors, contractors and regulatory bodies. Ensure local and corporate management is aware and aligned on all regulatory contacts.
  • Develop expertise in the IS discipline for continuous support and improvement of the IS operation. Participate in professional activities as required. Review industry best practices and evaluate application and benefits in the IS area.

Requirements and Minimum Education Level:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering or equivalent experience in the Process Safety Management area preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in Industrial Services, or equivalent experience in ammonia systems operations / maintenance.

Skills:

Good organizational and multitasking skills - ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

Good management and leadership skills.

Competent IS systems knowledge.

Strong interpersonal skills to be able to work in a collaborative team environment.

Strong communication and presentation skills.

High proficiency in using Microsoft Word
