R&D Engineer Intern

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows an onsite work model, requiring employees to be in our local office at least four days per week. Relocation and housing assistance may be available to those who meet the eligibility criteria. Employees are responsible for their own daily transportation to work. About the Role

Our R&D engineers are responsible for designing and developing implantable medical devices for the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group. These technologies monitor, support the diagnosis of, and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. AIS provides devices and therapies that support a patient's entire continuum of care, from diagnostics to treatment. In this role, you will contribute to the development and testing of innovative electronic systems used in implantable medical devices. A key focus of the position involves designing, building, testing, and debugging printed circuit boards (PCBs) for sensor and electronic subsystems. This includes hands-on PCB assembly, soldering, circuit validation, and bench testing to support the development of next-generation medical technologies. This division strives to innovate and create paradigm-shifting solutions that address unmet clinical needs and redefine what is possible for patients.

Responsibilities

Apply strong problem-solving and analytical skills to perform meaningful electrical engineering work in an R&D environment. Design, prototype, assemble, and test PCB boards for sensor and electronic subsystems. Perform hands-on circuit assembly and soldering of components to support rapid prototyping and validation. Conduct bench testing and debugging of electronic circuits and chemical sensor systems using lab instrumentation. Manage project tasks related to data acquisition, data structuring, analysis

Required Qualifications:

Must be a rising junior or rising senior (grad dates between Dec 2026 - June 2028), graduating senior (May/June 2026 grad) continuing on to grad school, or current grad student Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering Demonstrated understanding of low power mixed-signal circuits and systems Must be able to commit to program dates May 18th - August 7th or May 26th - August 14th, 2026

Preferred Qualifications:

MATLAB and Python experience in an academic or work environment Experience with chemical sensors or similar Excellent communication and collaboration skills
