The Program Support Assistant (PSA) for Surgical Service serves the Chief by providing program administration, clerical needs, and coordination of administrative needs for service personnel. The PSA provides clerical and administrative support for the service which has training, patient care, research programs, and outpatient clinics, all of which require coordination and/or oversight by the Chief, Surgical Service.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/04/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
GS-07 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as: Making appointments, arranging conferences and meetings Collecting information and assembling files Take and transcribe dictations Compose letters and reports accurately Gather information and data analysis to make recommendations for service resolutions Order and monitor supplies and equipment Proficiency Requirement: In addition to meeting time in grade and experience requirements, applicants for this position must show possession of the following skills: 40 words per minute typing speed.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary in an office setting. However, some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light objects (such as papers, books, office supplies) is required. This position demands periods of intense concentration and the ability to maintain control in difficult situations.
