The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Colorado State University (CSU) seeks a dynamic leader to become the founding Director of a new Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in Construction Engineering. The position is a full-time appointment and is expected to be at the level of associate or full professor with tenure in the CEE Department.
Colorado State University is building a top-ranked Construction Engineering program that will marry management and business savvy with technical engineering expertise. Our program has a unique partnership with industry leaders and is enthusiastically supported by university leadership. Through strong collaboration between the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCoE) and the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS), the program leverages existing strengths in the CEE and Construction Management (CM) Departments to deliver a second to none student experience. The program welcomed its first cohort of students in fall 2025 and will apply for ABET accreditation upon their graduation.
Thoughtfully designed to create a premier program valued by both students and industry, the CSU Construction Engineering program will have a competitive advantage over peer institutions with expert faculty, strong industry participation, dedicated staff, and innovative learning spaces, all of which are crucial to success. A key to establishing a top program, a robust student support program will recruit and retain students who will fuel the workforce pipeline and develop into future industry leaders.
Responsibilities:
The Program Director will lead the Construction Engineering program, including supporting the recruitment of students, faculty and staff; managing program curriculum and accreditation; developing strategic partnerships within the construction industry and other stakeholders; overseeing program budget; supervising staff; and fostering close collaboration between CEE and CM Departments. The Director will work closely with an industry advisory board (IAB), Department heads of both the CEE and CM Departments, and the Deans of both WSCOE and the CHHS to launch and grow a leading Construction Engineering degree program.
As a tenured faculty member in WSCOE, the Director will teach relevant undergraduate and graduate courses that prepare students to pursue a career in the construction and engineering industry, develop and maintain an independent and nationally recognized research program that is supported by external funding, work with student organizations, participate in graduate student advisement, integrate relevant research expertise into current and new academic courses, direct student research, and participate in service and development activities in support of the program, Department, College and University. The establishment of a research program at CSU will also build upon the existing collaborative Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on Construction Engineering and Management.

Required Job Qualifications:
PhD in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field;
Professional experience in the construction industry;
Experience with industry partnerships to support education and/or research;
Demonstrated ability to effectively teach construction engineering related courses;
Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish construction related research;
Demonstrated evidence of organizational/departmental service;
Evidence of publications in academic proceedings and peer-reviewed journals; and

Preferred Job Qualifications:
Licensed Professional Engineer, or the ability to obtain a professional engineering license after appointment;
Demonstrated administrative experience, indicating the ability to effectively budget, control costs, and equitably allocate resources;
Demonstrated effectiveness and experience in donor relations;
Track record of attracting external funding from a variety of sponsors (industry, government, and/or private foundations) to support research;
Track record of publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals;
Demonstrated evidence of forming and managing internal/external partnerships;
Track record of innovation in teaching and curriculum development;
Track record of mentoring students in settings beyond the classroom (e.g. student organizations, competitions, undergraduate research); and
Service in positions of leadership for national and/or international professional organizations.
