Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal/Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer (Instrumentation Subsystem Design) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test & Evaluation organization. This role will be located in Melbourne, FL. This is an individual contributor role that can be filled at either level.

As a Principal/Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer supporting the Instrumentation & Data team, you will be responsible for mechanical designs associated with flight test mechanical equipment, and integration onto test vehicles. These design activities will be associated with any of the following - cable interface assemblies, data acquisition hardware, and a variety of sensors design to measure stress, thermal, vibration, and linear/rotational displacement.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate the mechanical design life cycle from concept to system integration for flight test instrumentation hardware.
  • Facilitate cross IPT/discipline collaboration in the development of flight test instrumentation designs.
  • Procurement of hardware in support of mechanical designs.
  • Serve as the point of contact with vendors, manufacturers, and technician teams in the fabrication, assembly, and installation of flight test instrumentation equipment.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Mechanical Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of experience in engineering; OR Master of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 3 years of experience in engineering; OR PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 1 year of experience in engineering.
  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of experience in engineering; OR Master of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 6 years of experience in engineering; OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 4 years of experience in engineering.
  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
