Chief Of Surgical Services

Position will be located in Muskogee, Oklahoma, but will require travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Chief of Surgical Services is responsible for: Assuring the timely and appropriate medical care of VA patients within the Service. Overseeing the technical and ancillary staff in their respective duties within the Service, for mentoring Surgery residents or fellows rotating through the Service (monitoring their progress and assessing their appropriate core competencies or School objectives); performing this in conjunction with the Resident Site Director. Implementing all appropriate quality assurance and improvement measures on an on-going basis Represents the service on important Medical Center committees with influence on patient care, administrative modalities, teaching and closely monitors all other committees on which surgery and specialty care service has representation. Surgical Quality Improvement Committee (Surgical Workgroup) Mortality and Morbidity Review Peer Review Committee Professional Standards Board Critical Care Committee Medical Executive Committee Medical Record Committee liaison Budget and finance operations Strategic planning Maintain service-wide timely completion of operative notes, discharge summaries, progress notes and orders; working with the service Administrative Officer and/or Program Support Assistants as required. Maintain compliance with record completion for timely billing and MCCR; working with the service Administrative Officer and/or Program Support Assistants as required. Operating Room Function Schedule of operative cases OR & block schedule utilization OR Throughput and efficiency Plays a pivotal interactive role with the following quality/outcome measurement systems that are in place as integrated improvement tools. He/she assures that data collection is accurate and verified and that the returned aggregated data elements are communicated to the appropriate process owners and providers. VA Surgical Quality Program (VASQIP) Mortality /Morbidity Wound Infection rates OR and Clinic performance improvement such a son-start times, efficiency, timeliness Overall quality of care of surgical patients Assists the Chief of Surgery with performance of Ongoing Professional Peer Evaluations(OPPE) and Focused Professional Peer Evaluations (FPPE) of new and established healthcare staff within the Service. Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with medical and surgical diseases, accomplished through ambulatory and bed-based resources assigned to the service of the surgeon's specialty. He/she actively participates inpatient care through hospital rounds, morning reports, conferences, consultations, participation in ambulatory care, and other similar activities.
