Mechanical Engineer
The Materials & Process Engineering Department, which functions within the Hardware Engineering Team, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our group. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to perform mechanical testing and designing of fixtures to support development, design and failure analysis activities associated with a wide range of product applications. Work will require critical thinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention to detail on procedures, testing, analysis, and documentation. Collaboration with design, engineers, material engineers and subject matter experts from various disciplines is required. The candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of tasks simultaneously within schedule requirements. This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team. What You Will Do
- Conducting hands on mechanical testing using a variety of laboratory techniques to determine material properties and design limitations
- Developing test plans and test setups for unique hardware configurations
- Assessing materials based on conformance to specifications
- Assessing parts and hardware relative to structural analyses and conformance to design requirements
- Collaborating with a multi-disciplined team
- Work will require careful attention to detail
- Due to the physical nature of the work, qualified candidates must be able to lift up to 28lbs
- Managing and coordinating a wide variety of analysis tasks within schedule requirements
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a A University Degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years prior relevant experience.
- Experience in Instron or MTS load frames
Qualifications We Prefer
- Bachelor in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), specifically in Mechanical Engineering
- Fundamental principles of Mechanical Engineering with comprehensive knowledge in mechanics of materials
- Hands-on mechanically inclined problem solver
- Familiarity with stress/structural analysis
- Proficiency with instrumentation and data acquisition equipment
- Experience with LabView, MatLAB, and PTC Creo
- Understanding of ASTM test methods for mechanical testing
- Experience with general material testing/analysis using laboratory equipment
- Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills
- ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. 3.0 cumulative GPA desired
