Advanced Medical Support Assistant

The incumbent serves as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant in the Hampton VA Healthcare System, Health Administration Service (HAS). Assignment for these vacancies include Specialty/PACT. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines, canceling and rescheduling patient appointments, monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments, ensuring patient readiness for visits, performing office automation duties, and providing telephone support for scheduling actions and general questions. The work schedule is 7:30am-4pm; 8am-4:30pm; 7am-3:30pm.

Requirements include being a U.S. Citizen, proficient in written and spoken English, subject to background/security investigation, and completion of an online onboarding process. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Qualifications include basic requirements such as United States Citizenship, experience and/or education, and English language proficiency. For the GS-6 level, the incumbent must demonstrate the ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians, independently set priorities and organize work, communicate tactfully and effectively, and have advanced knowledge of the technical health care process, policies, and medical terminology.
