We are seeking a Mechatronics Engineer with a strong technical background in mechatronics systems, dynamics and control, system modeling, and simulations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation and will report to the Director of Mechatronics & Structures within the mechanical engineering team. This role involves driving the execution of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-Based Design (MBD) through the development of systems-integrated mechatronics models, and contributing to the development of mechatronics, robotics, and automation systems for future laboratory diagnostic instruments and automation platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechatronic models, simulation tools, and design-optimization methodologies for applications in precision motion, fluidic, and thermal controls.
  • Expand existing Model-Based Design (MBD) capabilities and execute Model-Based Engineering (MBSE) workflows through systems-level integration of mechatronics sub-systems models.
  • Develop Multibody Dynamics models of Motion Control systems in Simcenter 3D Motion and other software.
  • Design and create CAD models to support test platform development and new concept prototypes.
  • Contribute to the development of prototypes and test platforms for new design concepts.
  • Develop Test Automation code in LabView for benchtop-level subsystem testing.
  • Guide design engineers in executing the mechatronics design cycle, including understanding design requirements, concept generation, design selection, and simulation-based servo-mechanical design optimization.
  • Collaborate with specialists and engineers from various disciplines to develop and integrate novel, improved, and cost-effective Mechatronics solutions for Instrument and Automation platforms.

Essential Skills

  • Solid understanding of dynamics, control theory, sensors, actuators, circuit theory, basic/applied physics, electronics, and signal processing.
  • Strong background in mechatronics and robotics.
  • Proficiency in developing mathematical models and simulation tools for mechatronic systems.
  • Working knowledge of Siemens NX CAD software and Simcenter 3D Motion.
  • Proficiency in Matlab, Simulink, and Stateflow.
  • Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, and LabView-based test development.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to apply system-level thinking in the mechatronics design process, including firmware and software architecture interaction with hardware.
  • Knowledge of system identification and parameter estimation methods.
  • Familiarity with Multiphysics modeling using various tools is highly desirable.
