Manufacturing Engineer

Responsible for the manufacturing processes of sub-assemblies and finished product for a designated manufacturing area. Focus on achieving key product indicators including safety, cost, quality and delivery. Manage continuous improvement projects and determine root cause of production issues.

Essential Functions:

  • Review and analyze safety, operational, quality and maintenance reports to identify areas for improvement
  • Evaluate equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, cost and safety
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing Process Flow Diagrams and PFMEA plans
  • Create and maintain manufacturing process documentation e.g. work instructions and training guidelines
  • Implement lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, Kanban, poke-yoke, visual management, single-piece flow
  • Utilize structured problem solving tools e.g. A3, 5Y, 8D, Ishikawa, PDCA, Six Sigma DMAIC, Shainin, etc.
  • Work within cross functional teams to support all aspects of manufacturing
  • Support plant-wide commitment to meet all International Standards IATF 16949, ISO 14001, VDA, etc.
  • Analyze product variation and implement process capability improvements

Skills and Requirements:

  • Education: College graduate with BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred or AS degree in an Engineering discipline with relevant work experience.
  • Experience: Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
  • 3-5 years of experience in an automated or semi-automated manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics and pneumatic diagrams
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical systems
  • Specific Skills: High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with Tier I and/or Tier II automotive supplier specifications
  • Experience with PLC logic, vision, force/distance control and monitoring, torque and marking systems
  • Familiarity with friction welding, assembly, balancing, and/or electro-static painting processes
  • Ability to program/troubleshoot Siemens based controllers Read and write German
