Functional System Administrator

This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the JBSA Fort Sam Houston IT Office. This is a Regular Full-Time category position with guaranteed 40 hrs. per week. Employees appointed to a Regular category position are eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities:

Functional System Administrator monitors, tests, analyzes, maintains, and operates multiple operating systems squadron network platforms. Analyzes LAN/WAN utilization statistics through data collection and performance measures to ensure smooth, reliable, and robust operation to LAN/WAN. Performs LAN installation, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting; and reviews, evaluates, and fine-tunes components such as hubs, switches, and routers to achieve peak efficiency within the overall network connectivity. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots network and application server hardware, network operating system software, and peripheral network equipment such as routers, bridges, cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, and concentrators. Changes the components of existing equipment for efficient operation or recommends major modifications to existing systems. Implements network operating system and or network application software and maintains contact with software suppliers to ensure that current releases of software products are in use. Ensures current network software products are compatible with system configurations and ensures interoperability, efficiency, and compliance with existing standards. Oversees and troubleshoots operation of the LAN/WAN and ensures hardware and network operating software are functioning properly and that operation standards are met. Function tests system components to identify and resolve technical problems, analyzes system malfunctions, implements necessary corrective actions, and provides ongoing support for the resolution of complex problems and operating malfunctions. Ensures the vigorous application of information security/information assurance policies in the delivery of network services. Functional System Administrators for Windows servers, WSUS, ACAS, Anti-virus, Intrusion Detection/Intrusion Prevention, Caterease, Foodtrack, SETS, MABB, Defense Lodging System, Terminal connectivity. The primary Network is NAFT/EISP but maintains wired and wireless networks at Lackland, Port San Antonio, Medina annex, Camp Bullis, HQ AFMC. Performs server security patching and updating the network firmware and Hardware. Scans network using RETINA And AVDS Systems (NESSUS) to keep PII and PCI information safe. May be required to work after hours, weekends and holidays. Position works under the supervision of the Chief of Information Technology.

Requirements:

Qualifying Experience: Must possess skills, and ability needed to work independently on firewalls and software on wired/wireless networks. Needs ability to troubleshoot and repair Paradyne ADSL/DSLAM modems. Must possess Secret/SSBI clearance. Must have progressive experience that provides knowledge of basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of the IT discipline/subject matter field. Knowledge of installing, configuring, upgrading, maintenance and troubleshooting hardware and software components to include Microsoft Windows & MAC operation system.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Customer service skills
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting Windows, MAC Operating Systems and mobile devices.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory administration.
  • Knowledge of commercial ISP network setup and configuration.

Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
