Human Resources Assistant (Military/Office Automation)

The Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD & the military services. Every MEPS represents state of the art in testing, examining & processing applicants for enlistment into the Armed Forces.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing assistance to visitors by directing them to appropriate points of contacts within assigned processing center.
  • Answering and/or forwarding telephone calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Administering pre-oath briefings to inform applicants regarding processing center procedures.
  • Maintaining office security by controlling access (i.e. issuing visitor badges, maintaining visitor logs, etc.) via the reception desk.
  • Operating a variety of office automation equipment to prepare enlistment and other military personnel documents.
  • Performing records management of electronic and paper applicant records.
  • Obtaining military applicants' fingerprints to initiate a background investigation.
  • Performing quality review of military applicant records, packets, and forms to ensure compliance with all requirements.
  • Preparing recruitment and other military personnel documents for individuals enlisting or reenlisting into military service.
  • Qualifications include:

    To qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

    Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Utilizing office automation software to update account information; Obtaining data from applicants for completion of personnel records; Maintaining applicant records in accordance with an established filing system; Utilizing appropriate formatting to create written correspondence and/or documents.

    Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (You must include a copy of your transcripts in your application package).

    OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

    Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
