HR & Immigration Specialist

We are looking for an experienced HR & Immigration Specialist to join our team in Golden Valley, Minnesota. In this role, you will oversee a variety of immigration-related processes and HR functions, ensuring compliance and efficiency in managing employee work visas and sponsorships. This is a long-term contract position within the construction industry, offering the opportunity to make a significant impact on workforce planning and immigration strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a large caseload of active immigration cases, including sponsorships, transfers, relocations, and visa renewals, ensuring timely updates and compliance for all work visas.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition, HR Business Partners, and leadership to support hiring decisions, workforce planning, and internal job changes involving sponsored employees.
  • Act as a liaison with internal legal teams and external immigration attorneys to coordinate case strategies, required documentation, and ensure adherence to legal requirements.
  • Monitor key milestones such as visa expirations, work eligibility requirements, and H-1B lottery results, providing proactive updates to employees and stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance to leaders on hiring sponsored employees, advising on compliance, strategic considerations, and role requirements.
  • Assess risk areas related to visa status and develop actionable recommendations to mitigate potential issues.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance immigration workflows, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Deliver regular updates to stakeholders on immigration case statuses, risks, and performance metrics.
  • Stay informed on evolving immigration laws and apply best practices to manage complex cases effectively.
  • Collaborate with HR teams to optimize help desk functions, ensuring smooth implementation and ongoing improvements of HR systems.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in HR administration, with a focus on immigration and employment law.
  • Proficiency in managing high-volume immigration cases, including H-1B sponsorships and other work visas.
  • Strong knowledge of employment-based immigration processes and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and their role in streamlining HR processes.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate across teams and communicate with legal counsel and external attorneys.
  • Proven track record of identifying risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Experience in leading process improvement initiatives within HR or immigration operations.
  • Strong research skills and ability to stay updated on changes in immigration regulations.
