Field Service Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a Field Service Engineer to troubleshoot complex engineering issues, enhance machine performance, and support customers on-site. This role combines mechanical, electrical/controls expertise throughout machine build, commissioning, and field service phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Mechanical and Controls Engineers and Shop Coordinators during machine build
  • Learn the ins/outs of each of the machines the company sells and services
  • Travel to customer sites to install, commission, and perform runoff of new machines (primarily domestic up to 75%.)
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls-related issues
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and upgrades on company equipment in the field
  • Train customer operators and maintenance personnel on proper machine operation and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams to provide feedback on machine performance and recommend improvements
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement corrective actions
  • Support debug and testing of machines during in-house build and runoff phases as needed
  • Document service activities, create detailed reports, and maintain accurate records of parts usage and machine history
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols at company facilities and customer sites
  • Stay current with industry advancements and company product updates

Skills and Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical training
  • 3+ years of field service or hands-on experience with industrial machinery, machine tools, or automation equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls systems
  • Proficiency in reading schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings
  • Working knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc) and HMI interfaces
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Valid driver's license and passport (or ability to obtain)
  • Physical ability to perform hands-on work, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working in industrial environments
  • Comfortable with 50% travel including some extended out-of-town stays - Experience with CNC programming and machine debugging - Automotive powertrain or precision manufacturing experience highly desirable
