Field Services Engineer I

At STERIS, we help our Customers create a healthier and safer world by providing innovative healthcare and life science product and service solutions around the globe. The role as a Service Engineer within the Life Science Service Engineering group you will focus on ensuring the serviceability, reliability and performance of our Life Science Equipment. In this role you will be responsible for conducting technical assessments, developing service documentation and equipment qualification documentation, supporting troubleshooting efforts, and developing and delivering training to internal teams and Customers. You will have a unique opportunity to collaborate cross-functionally and directly influence product functionality, quality, and Customer satisfaction. This is a hybrid role with the requirement of working onsite at our Mentor, OH Corporate HQ, 2 days a week.

What You'll Do as a Service Engineer:

  • Develop and maintain service documentation including Installation Qualification/Operation Qualification (IQOQ) protocols, Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) protocols, Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and field service procedures
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and service teams to gather technical data and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze complex technical issues
  • Support validation activities by providing documentation and technical expertise.
  • Participate in new product development process assuring that all service requirements are completed prior to product release (service documentation and procedure development, service training and tracking of equipment performance).
  • Participate in design reviews focused on serviceability and reliability of Life Science Equipment.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for assigned products, providing support as needed.
  • Identify and implement service process improvements.
  • Deliver service and maintenance training to technical support staff, field service representatives, and Customers.
  • Develop service kits and qualify replacement parts.
  • Maintain and update related databases to ensure accurate tracking of product performance and service history.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and uphold Customer satisfaction goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to company policies and the Code of Business Conduct.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed:

Required: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering preferred). Experience in servicing electronic and electromechanical equipment. Experience with equipment qualification and protocol development. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical data

Preferred: Familiarity with database maintenance and data tracking systems. Experience with industrial PLC and/or PC controls (Allen Bradley and Siemens) platforms.

Other: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and interpret a variety of technical data and documents. Strong technical writing and documentation skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical abilities. Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
