Engineering Technician
Maritime Operations within Mission Technologies - Nuclear & Environmental Services, is looking for an Engineering Technician to join the team in Newport News, VA.
Engineering Technicians in the Maritime Operations group support a wide variety of different functional areas at Newport News Shipyard. This requisition is specifically seeking candidates to support Newport News Shipbuilding in the nuclear and non-nuclear propulsion plant testing.
In this role, you will provide critical technical support for environmental remediation, radiological monitoring, and waste management operations. You will bridge the gap between engineering design and field execution, ensuring that nuclear facilities operate within strict environmental compliance and safety standards.

Engineering Technician 2 - Salary Range $56,200.3
Engineering Technician 3 - Salary Range $65,725.4
Engineering Technician 4 - Salary Range $82,963.4
What You Will Do
- Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
- Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
- Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
- Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
- Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.
- May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
What You Must Have
- Education/Experience:
- Engineering Technician 2 - Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year of related experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years related (DoD/USN) experience.
- Engineering Technician 3 - Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years related (DoD/USN) experience.
- Engineering Technician 4 - Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 6 years related experience or High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years related experience.
- Security Compliance Knowledge & Operational Skills:
- Candidates must possess a strong background in shipboard electrical or mechanical systems, heavy industrial manufacturing, or shipbuilding and testing.
- Candidates must have Prior service in the U.S. Navy, with a focus on technical ratings or operations that align with nuclear or maritime engineering standards.
- Candidates must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Security Clearance at the required level to perform sensitive mission-critical tasks.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen
- Candidate must have a current or active DoD secret clearance required (must maintain throughout employment)
Bonus Points For Having!
- Experience in a skilled trade or a specialized technical role within a high-consequence environment is highly preferred.
- Shipyard or US Navy A4W propulsion and/or reactor plant construction, operation, and/or maintenance experience.
- Working knowledge of shipyard work controls processes to include proficiency with Electronic Shift Operating Management System (eSOMS).
- Active Confidential DOD Security Clearance.
Physical Requirements
- Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the job. A waterfront office work environment is normally encountered.
- Must be able to lift/move equipment not to exceed guidelines for a one-person lift and climb shipboard vertical ladders.
