Engineering Technician

The incumbent serves as an Engineering Technician providing comprehensive technical automation and physical plant engineering support to the facility program, ensuring proper functioning of automated fulfillment systems and ancillary support equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining complex, diverse facility and automated utility/system operations to include periodic inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair. The technician improvises troubleshooting practices and interprets electronic, electrical, and mechanical drawings, specifications, and schematics of custom systems. They monitor quality assurance indicators related to forecasting of premature equipment failure rates, mean time between equipment failures (MTBF) as they relate to enhancing patient safety, and the prevention of control of unexpected catastrophic system failures, identifying and implementing protocols to ensure timely recovery of critical equipment and systems. The technician resolves a variety of unconventional situations arising from software, hardware, and integration programs. They collaborate with production supervisors and end users to optimize fulfillment workflow. The technician serves as a subject matter authority for automated pharmacy fulfillment system components and ensures that application training is provided to users and support staff. They maintain an equipment inventory and maintenance database used to supply current maintenance information on request. The technician assists with site preparation, installation, configuration, and integration of healthcare technology and operational control systems for facility, wider-organization, and/or agency wide networked systems, coordinating with vendors and Contracting Officers and procurement or technical issues.

Work Schedule: (Available shifts between) Monday through Friday 6:00 AM EST to 12:00 AM EST Compressed/Flexible: Not Available Telework: This position is not authorized for telework. Virtual: This is not a remote/virtual position.

Position Description/PD#: Engineering Technician/PD05420A Physical Requirements: This position involves the performance of inspection activities which requires frequent extensive walking, standing, bending, climbing, crouching, reaching and lifting of a variety of moderately heavy items such as large metal lids on storage containers. Work Environment: Work involves various conditions and environments. Some duties required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities troubleshooting automated system equipment, the usage of various hand tools, soldering equipment and test equipment. Performance of periodic inspections and preventative maintenance and repair of automated systems and equipment. Knowledge of developments and new applications of information technology (hardware, software, telecommunications), emerging technologies and their applications to business processes, and applications and implementation of information systems to meet organizational requirements. Performs periodic inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair of automated systems.

Physical Requirements: Work involves bench work/field work that may require sitting, walking, standing, bending, lifting, and pushing up to 40 pounds or more and handling of equipment.
