Engineering Technician (Mechanical)

You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Submarine Piping and Mechanical Branch (Code 265) in the Fluid/Mechanical Engineering and Planning Division (Code 260) of the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities include identifying applicable reference materials, establishing days required for work, and giving estimated completion dates for technical work documents to execute the repair. You will provide technical guidance for checking technical work documents, material specifications, and other documents for technical adequacy and conformity with the specification and quality requirements. You will analyze reports submitted by the shops as a result of test and examination of equipment for repairs.

Qualifications require a resume that demonstrates at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience performing engineering services that include but are not limited to; knowledge of the Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) database to support development of Job Summary and Task Group Instructions, material identification, selection, and procurement utilizing various databases including the development of Job Material Lists (JMLs), develop detailed technical guidance based on specifications, working plans, calculations to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements.
  • Experience with submarine secondary propulsion plant systems including but not limited to (main steam, main, feed and condensate, cooling water, lubrication oil stowage, handling and distribution, high pressure- air, EMBT blow, hydraulics, steering and diving, plumbing, and all associated equipment and hardware.
  • Experience developing manning estimates, support development of production work schedules.
  • Experience acting as a troubleshooter to identify and develop technical resolutions associated with mechanical component repair based on visual inspections, reports and test results.
  • Experience utilizing special emphasis programs such as SUBSAFE, Level I, Steam Plant Cleanliness, Deep Submergence Systems - Scope of Certification (DSS-SOC).
